Submitted as a response to an invited competition in 2013, this project is a mixed use building complex in Baabda, Lebanon. With no specific guidelines to what functions the project shall hold, it was up to the participating architects to study the market and social needs in the area. The latter lead us to conduct an economic and social survey that concluded the guidelines of the project. The arranged landscape between the three buildings is a garden space accessible to all the users of the three buildings. This specific place could not include a swimming pool, given that it is surrounded by three buildings and will eventually be shadowed. As a response, the swimming pool is located on the rooftop of the office building and due to the natural slope of the land, is accessible from the garden area without having to go inside the building itself.
The landscaped area between the buildings connects the entire project together. Some parts of the garden play as a private garden for the apartments of the lower levels, and the rest stays accessible to all the users, some being the residents of the apartments or the users of the office building.
A double skinned facade ensures a comfortable working interior area. The sun breakers shape the volume while they play a major part in energy consumption and interior natural light quality.
We proposed a residential building including townhouses and duplexes on the calm road. Due to the topography, proximity of the highway and orientation, we proposed a showroom, offices and a gym. The double skin façade introduced in the corporate building, gives it an office character, reduces the heat of the southern facade and is an energy saver.
